Tu fas l’últim TRAM

The Generalitat, through the Directorate General of European Funds and Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV), has launched the campaign “Tu fas l’últim TRAM” in order to publicise the modernisation works carried out on Line 9 of the TRAM d’Alacant (Benidorm-Dénia) and which have received European funding.

As part of this campaign, on 27th and 28th July, from 10:00 to 14:00 hours, tents will be set up in Marqués de Campo street in Dénia, on Thursday 27th, and in Elche Park in Benidorm, Friday 28th, to inform about all the news made in this line of the TRAM d’Alacant.

In addition, there will be participatory dynamics related to these improvement actions in FGV infrastructures in Alicante.

New Line 9 of TRAM d’Alacant

Last January, the new Line 9 of the TRAM d’Alacant (Benidorm-Dénia) was put into service after the renovation and modernisation works that had been carried out over the last few years were completed.

The opening of the section between Gata de Gorgos and Dénia brings back a service that is highly demanded by the different populations of the Marina Alta region and which, in turn, contributes to improving the province’s structure and responding to the mobility needs of its citizens.

The Generalitat has carried out these actions with the aim of achieving the integral renovation and modernisation of this line, with an investment of more than 150 million euros, financed in part with contributions from the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund Comunitat Valenciana 2014-2020 (FEDER 14-20).

With technical improvements incorporated and new infrastructures built, as well as new double-track rolling stock, it is possible to maintain and improve operating conditions, guaranteeing the regularity and quality of the service with similar standards to the rest of the TRAM network.

In Dénia, Line 9 has two new stops before arriving at the main station, Bosc de Diana and Pedrera-Vessanes, built as part of the process of the new tramway, which has allowed for the urban integration of the old railway line.

The improvement and modernisation works on this line continue with the new viaduct over the Quisi ravine in Benissa and, in the coming months, work will begin on the new bridges over the Algar and Mascarat rivers in Altea, also financed by the European Union.

In Benidorm, these actions have allowed for the improvement of the station’s accessibility conditions, the creation of a new rolling stock depot, the upgrade of the Benidorm Intermodal stop and the completion of the new underpass on Beniardà Avenue.

This action, financed by the European Union, like the others, has transformed the level crossing of the TRAM d’Alacant, Lines 1 and 9, into a pedestrian level crossing, protected by warning lights and acoustic signals, and with an underpass for vehicles already in service.
